Jeju Olle announced on the 19th that it will hold the 1st "2024 Pellong Pellong Jeju Olle Children’s Walking Festival" on May 11. The Jeju Olle Children’s Walking Festival, held for the first time this year, was organized by Jeju Olle, the Korea Junior Chamber, and the Seogwipo Junior Chamber to promote the healthy growth of future generations.

The walking course is a total of 4 km, starting with an opening ceremony at Gudumi Port on Jeju Olle Course 6 and concluding with a closing ceremony at Jaguri Park. While the distance is enough for adults to walk in 1 to 2 hours, it requires patience and stamina for children. By completing the course, children can strengthen their physical and mental activities and gain confidence and a sense of accomplishment.

This festival was planned from the perspective and ideas of children. It aims to provide diverse experiences for children who are not familiar with walking culture. Children will walk together and experience the vegetation, culture, and history of the Olle Trail course, stimulating their five senses through nature to develop ecological sensitivity. Additionally, traditional games that allow children to enjoy walking as play and various performances by children’s groups active in the Seogwipo area are prepared.

“Poetry-writing Jeju boy” Min Si-woo was appointed as the festival ambassador and personally drew the official poster. Sentences from Min Si-woo’s recently published second poetry collection for children, "Thank You," are displayed along the festival course so that children can enjoy poetry appreciation while walking with nature, and a poetry reading session will be held at the closing ceremony.

Since the festival is centered on children, the first Children’s Planning Team will be recruited to make the festival more fun and abundant. Selected members of the Children’s Planning Team will participate in pre-education programs and help create the festival. Various supporter activities as the Children’s Planning Team will continue, including serving as children MCs for the opening and closing ceremonies, promoting the festival and raising awareness of environmental importance as children reporters, performing Olle dance shows, and planning a children’s flea market. Recruitment for the Children’s Planning Team will continue until the 29th.

Ahn Eun-joo, CEO of Jeju Olle, said, "Walking culture is no longer just for adults; I hope children can enjoy it together. Healing and relaxation through walking are even more necessary for children." She added, "Walking culture has been recognized as very important, to the extent that Jeju Olle walking has been officially incorporated into Jeju Island’s curriculum, and I hope this festival will be an opportunity to experience Jeju’s nature, ecology, and culture."
