Following the enactment of the Special Act on the Termination of Dog Breeding, Slaughtering, and Distribution for Food Purposes (hereinafter referred to as the Special Act on Dog Food Termination) on the 6th of last month, Jeongeup City has initiated related procedures.
On the 18th, the city announced that it will receive dog breeding farm operation reports and dog food termination implementation plans.
With the promulgation of this special law, the operation of new dog breeding farms, slaughtering, distribution, and sales facilities for food purposes is prohibited.
Accordingly, dog breeding farms for food purposes within the region must submit operation reports by May 7, three months after the law’s promulgation date, and submit dog food termination implementation plans by August 5, six months after the promulgation date.
If breeding farms fail to report within the deadline, they will be excluded from support for business continuation or closure and will be subject to fines of up to 3 million KRW.
The city plans to visit farms that have submitted reports to verify operational status and continuously monitor compliance with the implementation plans until closure is completed.
A city official stated, “With the enforcement of the Special Act on Dog Food Termination, we will conduct periodic surveys to check the implementation plans and prevent animal abuse, striving to ensure that dog breeding for food purposes is terminated in accordance with the intent of the special law. We ask that reports and termination implementation plans be submitted within the deadline to avoid any disadvantages.”
