Hyundai Motor Securities Recognized for Excellent Corporate Culture Encouraging Flexible Work
"Work and Family Are Both Precious Life Journeys"
"We Encourage Those Hesitant About Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Parenting to Be Courageous"
"My child just started elementary school, and mornings are really busy. Unlike kindergarten, elementary school doesn’t have a mid-morning snack, so if I don’t feed my child breakfast, there’s nothing to eat until lunch, which worries me. So, while getting ready for work and preparing my child’s things in the morning, feeding them breakfast makes things a bit hectic. Fortunately, I use the company’s flexible working hours system, so I can safely send my child to school and then go to work."
Kim Eunji, manager at Hyundai Motor Securities Daegu Branch, is currently using the 'shortened working hours for childcare' system. This allows her to adjust her commute by one hour in the morning or afternoon according to her situation. She said, "Above all, it’s possible because of the consideration from my colleagues regarding the use of family-friendly policies."
Lee Gippeum, manager at Hyundai Motor Securities Namyang Branch, who is soon to give birth, said, "I think commuting will be really busy once the child is born. It’s fortunate if there are family members nearby to take care of the child when they are sick or in urgent situations, but there are many cases where that’s not possible, so I’m already worried." She added, "Still, the atmosphere among colleagues is that flexible working hours can be freely used. Everyone thinks of it as their own work and respects each other. The company infrastructure also allows easy use of flexible working hours anytime, so I feel that the company cares about balancing work and family."

Corporate Culture Encouraging and Respecting the Use of Family-Friendly Policies
Hyundai Motor Securities educates employees about various family-friendly policies and encourages their use. The manager said, "The obstetrics clinic I visited required arriving by at least 4:30 PM to receive treatment. If I left work at 5 PM as usual, the clinic was already closed." She added, "Fortunately, the company encouraged the use of fetal examination leave, so when a checkup was needed, I applied for leave and was able to receive treatment without difficulty."
At Hyundai Motor Securities, flexible working hours are generally freely used. Manager Kim said, "There are far fewer people who think negatively about employees using flexible working hours than in the past." She believes that an open corporate culture regarding work-family balance fosters employees’ sense of responsibility.
She said, "Using flexible working hours strengthens the feeling that you must take responsibility for your assigned tasks. At the same time, it increases the desire to care for colleagues who consider me. From a work perspective, using time flexibly makes the day much more efficient," she added.

Both Work and Family Are "Precious Times in My Life"
Manager Kim recently received a small gift from the company when her child entered elementary school. "There was a letter from the CEO with the enrollment gift, and I read it together with my child. Even though balancing work and childcare is tough, feeling that the company is very considerate gives me strength," she said. "Although it was a small gift, it made me proud of the company. I also remember gaining confidence that I could successfully manage both work and childcare," she recalled.
She continued, "I once took a short break from work, and comparing then to now, the satisfaction I feel in my daily life while working is much greater. Watching my child attend school well while also seeing myself doing well at work makes me proud," she said. "My child knows on their own that mom is busy with work. Seeing my child grow and try to do what they can is truly heartwarming," she added.
The manager said that both the time spent at work and the time spent at home are precious parts of life. She said, "Balancing childcare and work will have a positive impact on the child to be born and on my life as an individual. The child will see up close from an early age how mom and dad work hard to balance childcare and work. Through this process, I want to instill a positive value about balancing work and family in my child."
She added, "I was touched by the many considerations the company showed after my pregnancy, and I feel grateful thinking that I can return to work after giving birth. I believe that a child’s growth is part of our society’s progress toward the future. Since society members continue to strive for work-family balance, I hope those hesitant about pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare will find courage," she emphasized.
