Gibo, Advancement of Automated Patent Evaluation System... Support for Outstanding IP Companies

Reflecting Accumulated Patent Technology Evaluation Data and Know-How

The Korea Technology Finance Corporation (Kibo) announced on the 18th that it has advanced the automated patent appraisal system KPAS (KIBO Patent Appraisal System) Ⅱ by reflecting various evaluation cases from expert appraisers.

Kibo's patent appraisal system (KPAS) is a smart patent appraisal system that automatically calculates the evaluation grade and value amount of patents by analyzing expert appraisers' evaluation data and evaluation patterns using AI-based big data and deep learning techniques.

KPAS enables rapid real-time evaluations, generating over 20,000 patent appraisal reports annually. It is highly utilized by 28 partner organizations, including university-industry cooperation foundations and public research institutes. Kibo has continuously advanced KPAS by incorporating external users' feedback to minimize differences between individual experts' perspectives and automated evaluation results.

In particular, Kibo has refined the value calculation algorithm of KPAS Ⅱ by utilizing evaluation cases and know-how accumulated from about 300 PhD-level personnel as AI training data to enhance sales estimation accuracy. It also allows evaluators to selectively reflect the financial characteristics of individual companies, complementing the uniformity of the AI-based automated calculation system.

This year, Kibo plans to newly supply approximately 600 billion KRW worth of intellectual property (IP) appraisal guarantees and aims to actively discover outstanding IP companies through KPAS Ⅱ, which offers simplified evaluation procedures and rapid support.

Kim Jong-ho, Kibo's Chairman, stated, “Kibo's KPAS is the first patent-based technology appraisal system introduced domestically in 2017, an excellent platform combining Kibo's decades of professional technology appraisal data and AI technology.” He added, “By opening the platform externally and promoting its diverse use, we will take the lead in realizing the data-driven digital platform government, a national agenda.”
