Apology for Tottenham's Heavy Defeat
Dislocation Injury from Last Month Still Persists
Son Heung-min's team Tottenham suffered a 3-goal defeat without scoring in an away match against Fulham, causing Son Heung-min to lower his head. However, domestic fans focused on the bandage-free finger of his hand.

On the 16th (local time), Tottenham lost 0-3 in the 29th round away match of the 2023-2024 EPL season against Fulham at Craven Cottage in London, England. Son Heung-min started as a forward aiming to score but failed to score for the third consecutive game. In an interview conducted immediately after the match, he called for self-reflection among the team players, saying, "It is very disappointing and frustrating," and "This kind of result is always painful as a player. It must be an even greater pain for the fans." He added, "All players, including myself, need to do better," and "Because it is a team sport, I do not want to blame any player. Every player should look in the mirror and take greater responsibility," delivering harsh words.
During the interview, Son Heung-min wiped his face with his right hand. Domestic fans focused on his fingers. Son Heung-min's third finger was still swollen. It stood out more compared to the other fingers. It is presumed that the finger dislocation injury he sustained during the Qatar Asian Cup last month has not yet fully healed.
Domestic fans reacted with comments such as "It's still swollen," "I get so frustrated every time I see his finger," "Maybe because he can't take medicine or rest due to doping concerns, it’s not healing well," "It’s upsetting," and "It’s pitiful."
Earlier, British media The Sun and the Korea Football Association reported that on the evening of the 6th of last month, a day before the semifinal match against Jordan, Son Heung-min was involved in a physical altercation with some players while trying to stop Lee Kang-in (Paris Saint-Germain) and others from playing table tennis, during which he injured his finger. As a result, Son Heung-min played with his hand bandaged not only in the match against Jordan but also in matches after returning to Tottenham.
After the incident, images of Son Heung-min signing autographs with his injured finger unable to bend, signing with his finger extended, and being startled when something brushed against his finger while signing for fans, then shaking his hand and continuing to sign, were shared, raising concerns that he is suffering from aftereffects of the injury.
