Amid predictions that the cherry blossom blooming period will advance by about one day to one week due to climate change such as global warming, the spring flower festival schedules in 22 cities and counties of Gyeongbuk are accelerating.
The opening of the festivals, the Uiseong Sansuyu Village Flower Greeting Festival, began last weekend on the 16th and will run until the 24th of this month.
Sansuyu Village, famous nationwide, located in Hwajeon-ri, Sagok-myeon, Uiseong, boasts 30,000 Cornus officinalis trees planted since the Joseon Dynasty, showcasing a 300-year history and creating a golden spectacle. During the festival, the busking zone inside the Sansuyu Village Complex Center is filled with performances involving local residents, including the Uiseong Jinneulpum Nanta performance, Oksori Garak Janggu, and Bian Band performances.
At Sansuyu Square, young people participate in the Youth Dream Market, and at Supsil Square, the Hwajeon 2-ri village women's association operates a food market, delighting visitors’ eyes and palates. From this weekend, the peak cherry blossom blooming period, cherry blossom festivals will open across the 22 cities and counties.
The ‘Gyeongju Daereungwon Stone Wall Road Cherry Blossom Festival’ and the ‘Youth, Geumocheon Cherry Blossom Festival’ will kick off this week.
The ‘Gyeongju Daereungwon Stone Wall Road Cherry Blossom Festival,’ held against the backdrop of the nationally renowned Daereungwon stone wall road, will open on the 22nd, one week earlier than last year, and run for three days.
This festival will offer various performances, experiences, and participation programs along the long Daereungwon stone wall road.
At the Cherry Blossom Street Arts, street art performances including magic, bubble circus, and jazz will be held by 20 teams over 40 sessions, and a night light show combining lighting, lasers, and music will be presented twice daily during the festival, promising a special experience.
Additionally, there will be 10 emotional picnic zones and cherry blossom photo zones along the stone wall road where visitors can enjoy sitting on mats under the cherry blossoms.
Other unique programs include a handcrafted goods market linked with local workshops, a cherry blossom playground, cherry blossom tattoos, and free photo printing experiences, all set against the serene atmosphere of Gyeongju, which holds the thousand-year history of Silla, and the fully bloomed cherry blossoms, promising to create even more special spring memories.
On the same day, the ‘2024 Youth, Geumocheon Cherry Blossom Festival’ will open along the Geumocheon walking trail and Geumosan Provincial Park area in Gumi, providing enjoyment to citizens until the 26th.
Along the beautiful pink cherry blossom path embroidered along Geumocheon, a temporary waterside stage with 250 seats and special seating will be set up, featuring regular performances by local artists including La Poem (who appeared on JTBC Phantom Singer Season 3), and a media facade light garden photo zone utilizing holograms.
Also, busking and events will be held at the lawn plaza of Geumosan Provincial Park to stimulate the commercial district of Geumosan.
On the 27th, the ‘2024 Andong Cherry Blossom Festival’ will open and run until the 31st. Under the theme Spring Pang! Pang!, it will be held along the Nakdong River cherry blossom path and Talchum Park area, in conjunction with the Lifelong Learning Festival (30th?31st).
Throughout the festival, busking street performances including jazz, acoustic guitar, mime, and magic will be held, along with experiential events such as cherry blossom goods, cherry blossom sports day, and quiz events. Photo zones featuring cherry blossom tunnels, cherry blossom mobiles, and small stream LED lighting will be set up to add warm memories to the happy spring days.
Additionally, a free barehand exercise kids zone, a pet playground, and a flower-viewing hammock zone will be operated, and on the 29th, a musical film will be screened using the wall of the Korea Spirit and Culture Foundation building.
Moreover, the ‘2nd Namdaecheon Cherry Blossom Festival’ will be held for two days from the 30th at Gubong Park area along Namdaecheon in Uiseong.
