90-Year-Old Mother-in-Law with Dementia Lies in Yard, Tragedy Occurs
A woman in her 90s with dementia, who was lying in the yard of her house, was hit and killed by her daughter-in-law's vehicle as she was returning home.
On the 18th, the police and fire authorities reported that at around 9:01 a.m. the previous day in Seongdang-myeon, Iksan-si, Jeonbuk, A (55), who was returning home, hit her mother-in-law B (91), who was lying in the yard, with her car. B, who was seriously injured in the accident, was taken to the hospital but ultimately passed away. The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident based on statements that "the mother-in-law with dementia was lying in the yard and was not noticed in time."
Earlier, on the 10th, an accident occurred on a four-lane road in Ido 1-dong, Jeju-si, where a driver who had been drinking hit and killed a man in his 20s who was lying on the road. At the time, the driver's blood alcohol concentration was within the range for license suspension (0.03% or higher but less than 0.08%). The police, judging the severity of the damage and the risk of flight, applied for an arrest warrant against the driver and are investigating the detailed circumstances of the incident.
