Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon) will collaborate with Gangseo Fire Station to respond quickly to flooding situations during the summer and reduce damage. On the 18th, the district announced that it will promote the project "Establishing a Safety Network through Joint CCTV Monitoring," which shares closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage monitoring flooding around the Gaehwa Yukkapmun area with the Gangseo Fire Station control room.
Yukkapmun is a lock gate installed on land that normally allows cars and pedestrians to pass through, but when the Han River water level rises, the gate closes to prevent the river water from entering the land.
In particular, Gaehwa Yukkapmun, a frequent flooding area during the rainy season, is located on the route toward Gaehwa-dong and Banghwa-dong. If it does not operate properly when the Han River water level rises, significant human and material damage can occur. In 2022, unprecedented heavy rain, the heaviest in 115 years, caused flooding of 22 vehicles and stranded 2 drivers.
To prevent such damage, the district will, for the first time this year, share real-time CCTV footage of the Gaehwa Yukkapmun area with Gangseo Fire Station and jointly respond to prevent flood damage.
To this end, equipment capable of transmitting CCTV footage to Gangseo Fire Station will be installed by March, and CCTV footage from three locations?the inside and outside of Gaehwa Yukkapmun and the Banghwa temporary water collection well?will be shared with Gangseo Fire Station.
The district expects that by sharing footage and monitoring flooding situations in real time with the fire station control room, rapid rescue operations will be possible in the event of a disaster.
Mayor Jin Gyo-hoon said, "Initial response is most important to minimize damage in disaster situations, so we promoted collaboration with Gangseo Fire Station," and added, "We will break down barriers between institutions and departments and carry out administration that solves residents' inconveniences through cooperation."
