Gangnam-gu Companies Receive Up to 40% Reduction on Traffic Inducement Charges... How?

Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) plans to actively promote the traffic demand management system to local businesses this year to alleviate traffic congestion and encourage low-carbon green transportation lifestyles.

To ease traffic congestion in large cities, owners of facilities with a total floor area of 1,000㎡ or more are subject to a traffic inducement charge. The corporate traffic demand management system offers up to a 40% reduction in the traffic inducement charge per program based on the level of participation and implementation results if companies voluntarily participate in traffic volume reduction programs. Last year, 39 facilities received a total reduction benefit of 1.624 billion KRW.

This year, with 112 sites participating, the district office will actively promote the system so that more companies can utilize it. Customized promotional booklets detailing the reduction benefits will be sent to companies, and multi-faceted promotions such as SNS advertising and street campaigns will be conducted to increase participation rates.

The traffic volume reduction programs include a total of 11 programs: odd-even day driving restrictions for passenger cars, paid parking, parking space reduction, parking information provision systems, bicycle-friendly environment construction, fine dust reduction parking demand management, commuter bus operation, shuttle bus operation, company taxi system, flexible working hours operation, and nighttime opening of affiliated parking lots. Companies wishing to participate can check detailed information on reduction rates and operation methods for each program and apply through the traffic inducement charge reduction management system.

Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, stated, “We hope that companies will utilize the traffic demand management system to receive traffic inducement charge reduction benefits and participate in carbon neutrality efforts through traffic volume reduction.” He added, “We will continue to expand low-carbon eco-friendly transportation policies to solve urban problems such as traffic congestion and air pollution.”
