'The Best Welfare is Jobs' ... Dobong-gu Creates 10,313 Jobs This Year O Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, Talks with Residents of Banghak 1-dong

Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) has been focusing its administrative efforts on creating 42,000 jobs from 2023 to 2026, the year following the launch of the 8th local government.

Last year, the district achieved 11,803 jobs, which is 115% of the job creation target of 10,248, and recorded the highest-ever employment rate of 69.3% for ages 15 to 64, up 2.9 percentage points compared to the same period the previous year.

This year, the district plans to pursue job policies aiming to create 10,313 jobs and achieve an employment rate of 69.5%. Previously, the district established the '2024 Dobong-gu Job Policy' with the vision of a 'Vibrant Win-Win Economic City' and four major strategies.

First, it will build a virtuous cycle ecosystem for job creation. This year, Dobong will further expand local job infrastructure by establishing the Dobong Sock Sales Support Center, Small Business Support Center, Youth Employment Support Center, and Startup Support Center.

Specialized vocational skills and capacity-building training tailored to youth, middle-aged, career-interrupted women, and prospective entrepreneurs will be operated to enable actual employment and entrepreneurship. Quality employment services such as employment consulting and job matching support will be provided through the operation of the Job Plus Center and job fairs.

The district also plans to strengthen the self-sustainability of local industries by supporting startup spaces for prospective (early-stage) entrepreneurs, improving work environments for manufacturing companies such as apparel, providing low-interest loans to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and small business owners, and operating the Smart Innovation Support Group and small business managers to stabilize management of local SMEs and small businesses.

In particular, the district will expand the 'SME Overseas Trade Delegation Project,' which achieved good results last year, and newly implement the 'Dobong-gu SME Domestic and Overseas Market Development Support Project' this year.

Efforts will also focus on nurturing young talent and fostering specialized industries. Last year, the district established the Youth Future Division as a dedicated department for youth policies, concentrating on strengthening employment and entrepreneurship capabilities and forming a foundation for independence among local youth. This year, effective youth job policies will continue to be pursued, along with efforts to improve the quality of life and residential conditions for local youth.

The district will expand public institution and corporate practical internships and overseas internship support projects, which are pledges of the 8th local government. Various projects such as youth government experience groups, language and certification exam fee support for unemployed youth, and youth startup activation support will be promoted. Additionally, the music industry and 3D content production industry will be focused on as future industries of Dobong.

Efforts will also be intensified to create jobs for regional coexistence and strengthen the employment safety net. Emphasizing employment for vulnerable groups, about 5,200 public jobs by household and sector will be created through Seoul Companion Job Projects and local community job projects.

Furthermore, the district will lead the protection of workers' rights and welfare enhancement through operating the Comprehensive Worker Support Center, mobile worker shelters, Dobong-type Hope Incentive support, Yellow Umbrella Mutual Aid subscription support, and platform worker employment insurance premium support.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, stated, "Dobong-gu, which has long been marginalized in industrial economic development, is now reborn as a central economic city in the northeastern area rather than just a bedroom town of Seoul." He added, "We will continue to implement comprehensive job policies from employment and entrepreneurship for all classes to corporate growth support to improve residents' quality of life and revitalize the local economy."
