Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 18th that it will provide 1 million won in emergency living expenses to tenants who have fallen victim to jeonse fraud.
The eligible recipients are those recognized as victims under the Special Act on Jeonse Fraud or those who have received a certificate of jeonse fraud damage confirmation from the Korea Housing & Urban Guarantee Corporation. Foreign victims are also included, and support can be received only once per household.
However, if the applicant has already received emergency welfare or emergency housing relocation expenses provided by the government or Gyeonggi Province, they cannot receive additional emergency living expenses.
The support period lasts until the end of December next year, which is the expiration date of the Jeonse Fraud Victims Act. Applications can be submitted through the online portal "Gyeonggi Minwon 24" or by sending the application form via registered mail to the Housing Policy Division of Bucheon City.
Jo Yong-ik, Mayor of Bucheon City, said, "Although it is insufficient, I hope the emergency living expenses will provide some help to the victims of jeonse fraud," adding, "We will continue to provide support that victims of jeonse fraud can truly feel."
