Choi Guk-jin, the Progressive Party candidate for Mokpo City National Assembly, officially launched his election campaign with an opening ceremony at his election office at 2 p.m. on the 16th.
At the opening ceremony, Jeon Jong-deok, a candidate for the proportional representation of the Progressive Party under the Democratic United Coalition proportional alliance party, Yoon Bu-sik, the Progressive Party candidate for Yeongam-Muan-Shinan National Assembly, Park Hyung-sik, Jeollanam-do Provincial Assembly member, and Lee Jeong-hwak, vice chairman of the Jeonnam Provincial Party, joined together to pledge support for Choi Guk-jin's victory.

Also present were about 300 supporters from local labor unions and civic groups, including Choi Song-chun, chairman of the Mokpo Environmental Movement Union, Jo Chang-ik, representative of the Jeonnam Movement Headquarters for Free and Equal University Education, Kwak Jae-gu, chairman of the Mokpo Democratization Movement Succession Project Association, Han Bong-cheol, representative of the Jeonnam Education Council, Ko Yoon-hyuk, director of the Jeonnam Office of Education Information Research Institute, Jang Hyo-seong, head of the Mokpo branch of the Electric Workers' Union, Kim Sun-hee, head of the Muan branch of the School Irregular Workers' Labor Union, and Shin Kyung-ok, head of the Gangjin Medical Center branch, who expressed their support and wished for Choi Guk-jin's election.
During the opening ceremony, a video showcasing the candidate’s background and past activities was shown, introducing Choi Guk-jin as “someone who works harder than anyone else for the citizens of Mokpo and the development of Mokpo, and who can properly fight against Yoon Seok-yeol’s prosecutorial dictatorship.”
Choi Guk-jin responded with a deep bow to the approximately 300 supporters attending the ceremony, expressing his gratitude to the citizens of Mokpo by saying, “The time spent meeting merchants and small business owners while volunteering with car services from 5 a.m. at the dawn market, agricultural and marine products wholesale market, fisheries cooperative auction market, and Mokpo Station was a time of learning.”
He also said, “During my time as the head of the organizational dispute office of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, I often felt while participating in tent sit-ins in front of the National Assembly that the work of creating laws and systems for working people and ordinary citizens should not be left to others. Someone who understands the hearts of working people, laborers, and ordinary citizens better than anyone else must be in the National Assembly. That is why I decided to run for National Assembly.” He added, “I will not betray the supporters here and the citizens of Mokpo, and I will create a miracle by becoming a National Assembly member representing working people and ordinary citizens, symbolizing the inequality in the Mokpo region, especially the irregular workers at the shipyard.”
The approximately 300 supporters who attended the event concluded the opening ceremony by chanting the name of “Choi Guk-jin,” the person who will impeach Yoon Seok-yeol’s prosecutorial dictatorship in this general election and work for the development of Mokpo.
