On the First Day of 'Number Portability Conversion Support Fund,' Three Major Telecom Companies Pay 30,000 to 130,000 KRW

On the first day of the introduction of the 'Number Portability Switching Subsidy,' the three major mobile carriers released switching subsidies of up to 130,000 KRW depending on the plan and mobile phone model.

According to the telecommunications industry on the 16th, SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus set the number portability switching subsidy between 30,000 and 130,000 KRW when changing mobile carriers.


Earlier, on the 13th, the Korea Communications Commission approved the enactment of the 'Standards for Payment of Number Portability Switching Subsidies When Changing Mobile Carriers' and the revision of the 'Detailed Standards for Disclosure and Posting of Subsidies' in a plenary meeting following the revision of the enforcement decree.


KT offers the highest number portability switching subsidies. It provides 50,000 to 130,000 KRW for 10 types of mobile phone models. Subscribers to plans costing 90,000 KRW or more per month can receive switching subsidies of 50,000 to 80,000 KRW when purchasing Samsung Electronics' flagship smartphone Galaxy S24 series. When purchasing the iPhone 14 series and Galaxy Z Flip4 and Fold4, subsidies range from 50,000 to 130,000 KRW depending on the plan, and a flat 50,000 KRW is given for the Galaxy Jump3 regardless of the plan.


SK Telecom set subsidies of 50,000 to 120,000 KRW for seven mobile phone models depending on the plan. The highest amount of 120,000 KRW is paid for five models, including Samsung Electronics' foldable smartphones Galaxy Z Flip5, Fold5, Z Flip4, Fold4, and Galaxy Quantum4. For the Galaxy A24 and iPhone SE 3rd generation, up to 50,000 KRW is provided respectively.


LG Uplus supports 30,000 to 100,000 KRW depending on the plan for four models: iPhone 15 Pro, Galaxy Z Flip5, Fold5, and Galaxy A24. For the iPhone 15 Pro and Galaxy Z Flip5 and Fold5, subscribers can receive up to 100,000 KRW in switching subsidies depending on the plan and subscription period. The Galaxy A24 has a fixed number portability switching subsidy of 51,000 KRW regardless of the plan.


The three mobile carriers announced plans to expand the eligible devices for switching subsidies in the future.
