BPA Supports Installation of Specialty Village Restaurant for Local Products in Sinpyeong-ri, Gijang-gun BPA supported the installation of a specialty village restaurant for local products in Sinpyeong-ri, Gijang-gun, Busan.

This specialty restaurant held its completion ceremony on the 14th and plans to open in April, where local haenyeo (female divers) will cook and sell wild sashimi, sea snails, conchs, and other seafood they directly harvest.

BPA has been contributing to the Rural-Urban Win-Win Cooperation Fund since 2019 to promote sustainable development and growth of local fishing villages, collaborating with the Korea Fisheries Resources Agency Busan Fishing Village Specialized Support Center to carry out various support projects.

In March 2021, BPA established the ‘Gijang Specialty Direct Sales Center’ in the Idong Fishing Village of Gijang-gun, and in September 2022, remodeled an idle building in Idong Fishing Village to create a local specialty (seaweed) specialty restaurant.

Support for establishing such specialty direct sales centers and village restaurants can simultaneously achieve three effects: increasing fishermen’s income, creating jobs, and promoting the consumption of domestically produced seafood.

Additionally, BPA supported the installation of waste fishing gear separation and collection facilities in Dongsam Fishing Village, Yeongdo-gu, and seafood meal kit production equipment for the Dadae Village Cooperative in Saha-gu.

BPA’s efforts for mutual growth with fishing villages have been recognized, and it was selected for two consecutive years as a Rural-Urban ESG Practice Company designated by the Foundation for Cooperation between Large, Medium, and Small Enterprises and Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries.

Hong Sung-joon, BPA’s Chief Operating Officer, stated, “To fulfill the social responsibilities of a public enterprise, we will continue to expand win-win cooperation with rural and fishing villages.”
