Expanded Operation to All Areas within Gokseong County

Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it will expand the 'Dementia Memory Taxi' project, which supports transportation for dementia patients, to Seokgok Taxi and four additional myeon (township) areas.

This project began with a business agreement signed on March 11, 2024, between the Dementia Safety Center and Seokgok Taxi, and on the 13th, additional agreements were made with taxi companies located in Moksadong-myeon, Gyeom-myeon, Osan-myeon, and Ogok-myeon, thereby expanding the service coverage.

The Dementia Memory Taxi is a transportation support service introduced by the Gokseong-gun Dementia Safety Center in July 2022. It transports mobility-impaired individuals and local residents who wish to participate in dementia-related programs from their homes to their destinations. Through this agreement, the service has expanded from the existing Gokseong-eup and Okwa areas to the entire county, enabling dementia patients to use dementia respite programs more safely and conveniently.

This service does not require any out-of-pocket expenses from users and is provided to those participating in Dementia Safety Center programs, with operations limited to within Gokseong-gun.

Dementia Memory Taxi drivers have completed dementia partner training, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide dementia-friendly services.

Through this training, drivers offer safe transportation for dementia patients and their families, contributing to the creation of a dementia-friendly social culture and the establishment of a dementia safety network.

A representative from the Dementia Safety Center stated, "We expect that the Dementia Memory Taxi service will contribute to preventing the worsening of dementia by providing dementia patients in need of care with opportunities to participate in various cognitive stimulation programs," and added, "We will continue to do our best for residents in need of care, including those with dementia."

A representative from the Dementia Safety Center also said, "By providing dementia patients in need of care with opportunities to participate in various cognitive stimulation programs through the Dementia Memory Taxi service, we expect to help prevent the progression of dementia. Starting with this service, we will continuously strengthen support measures for residents requiring various types of care and do our utmost to improve their quality of life."
