"95% of Koreans Do Not Feel Refreshed After Sleep"

It was found that 95% of Koreans do not get a good night's sleep.

Sealy Bed announced the results of the "Sleep Census 2023" on the 15th in observance of World Sleep Day, revealing this information.

The Sleep Census is a global survey and study conducted by Sealy every five years. It researches the sleep activities of 20,000 people worldwide, including those in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Korea. The 2023 survey provides various sleep insights based on the results of 38 questions related to sleep.

In the survey, 92% of global respondents and 95% of Korean respondents answered "yes" to the question, "Have you ever experienced feeling unrefreshed in the morning and not having had enough rest?" This indicates that the majority of Koreans do not sleep deeply. Additionally, 41% of Korean respondents answered "yes" to the question, "Have you ever experienced lower back pain after sleeping?" By gender, 37% of men and 44% of women reported experiencing lower back pain after sleep, with women experiencing it more frequently. By age group, those aged 35-49 had the highest rate at 50%.

Regarding average sleep duration for Koreans, 48% responded "4-6 hours," which was the highest, followed by 47% who answered "7-8 hours." Meanwhile, among global respondents, 53% reported "7-8 hours," accounting for more than half, and 41% reported "4-6 hours."

Dr. Hailey Micklim, an Australian behavioral sleep medicine expert, stated, "As confirmed through the Sleep Census, modern people lack the leisure to get the recommended 7-9 hours of sleep. Sleep disorders can lead to depression and other issues, so consulting with a specialist is necessary."
