Mapo-gu to Conduct Thorough Cleaning Across Entire District Including Hongdae Red Road and Gongdeok Market at 7 AM on March 19
District to Use Water Cleaning Vehicles for Public Facility Cleaning During March's 'Spring Cleaning Special Period'...
The entire Mapo-gu area, including the representative tourist attractions ‘Hongdae Red Road’ and ‘Gongdeok Market,’ is set to welcome the new spring with a clean appearance.
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) will conduct a large-scale spring cleaning on March 19 at 7 a.m., involving a total workforce of about 1,650 people.
About 250 people, including Mapo-gu employees, residents, professional organizations, and companies, will sequentially clean Hongdae Red Road and Gongdeok Market. Starting from ‘Sangsangmadang’ in Hongdae, the cleaning will proceed through the club street and R5 (Eoulmadang-ro), and after finishing, they will move to Gongdeok Station to clean Gongdeok Market and the area near Gongdeok Elementary School.
Resident Kim Hyun-woo (Gongdeok-dong, 50) said, “Seeing the streets cleaned up makes me feel refreshed,” and added, “I plan to participate in the Gongdeok Market cleaning again this year with the thought of welcoming the new spring through local volunteering.”
Participants will wear sashes that read “Let’s Make a Clean Mapo Together” and carry out a local cleanliness campaign by picking up trash around roads and public facilities and performing water cleaning to remove dust accumulated over the winter.
At the same time, more than 1,400 people across all 16 neighborhoods will conduct their own ‘Spring Alleyway Cleaning’ targeting vulnerable areas such as habitual illegal dumping sites, shopping districts, and places with high foot traffic.
In particular, the neighborhood-level cleaning will utilize ‘voluntary cleaning participants’ composed of residents and students, adding significance to community cleanliness efforts involving local citizens.
Meanwhile, the district plans to designate March as a ‘Special Spring Cleaning Period’ to respond to the worsening fine dust and yellow dust inflow during the spring season.
Until March 31, the district will deploy dust suction and water cleaning vehicles to remove fine dust, as well as clean and conduct safety inspections of public facilities that have seen low usage during the winter, such as outdoor exercise equipment.
Mayor Park Gang-su said, “The spring cleaning holds great meaning as it involves residents who live and work in Mapo-gu taking care of and nurturing the community,” adding, “I hope all Mapo-gu residents welcome a refreshing spring through this cleaning, and we will continue to strive to maintain a clean and tidy Mapo.”
Meanwhile, autonomous cleaning participants in Mapo-gu are recruited year-round, and inquiries related to this spring cleaning can be made at the Mapo-gu Clean Mapo Division or each neighborhood community center.
