Additional Installations at Public Restrooms, Public Parking Lots, Convenience Stores with High Resident Traffic
Year-Round Training on CPR and Automated External Defibrillator Usage
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it has additionally installed automated external defibrillators (AEDs) at 27 public locations to enable any resident to respond quickly in emergency situations.
An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a device that delivers a strong electric current to the heart in a very short moment to induce normal heart activity in patients experiencing cardiac arrest.
Using an AED within 3 minutes immediately after cardiac arrest, followed by cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), significantly increases the survival rate.
This year, AEDs were newly installed at a total of 27 locations, including 5 public restrooms along Anyangcheon Stream with heavy resident traffic, 12 public parking lots in residential areas (6 outdoor and 6 indoor), and 10 convenience stores.
Signs indicating the ‘AED Installation’ have been posted so that any resident can use them in case of an emergency.
Geumcheon-gu currently has a total of 282 AEDs installed, including mandatory locations such as health and medical facilities. Installation locations can be checked via the smartphone apps ‘Emergency Medical Information Service’ and ‘Emergency Medical Portal.’
Regular AED usage training is provided at Geumcheon-gu Public Health Center (every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) and Bakmi Health Branch (second Monday of every month). Anyone living or active in Geumcheon-gu can attend, and after checking the schedule on the Geumcheon-gu Public Health Center website under ‘News,’ they can apply by phone to the Geumcheon-gu Medical Affairs Department.
The district plans to continue installing AEDs in public places and multi-use facilities and to expand education on AED usage and CPR.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “We hope that the additional installation of AEDs will help save the precious lives of residents in emergency situations,” and added, “We ask for your great interest and participation in AED and CPR training.”
