The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced on the 14th that it will hold the 'Business Information Visualization Ability (English name: BI Specialist)' qualification exam for the first time on May 18.

'Business Information Visualization Ability' is a single-level certification, and candidates must pass both a multiple-choice written exam and a practical skills test to obtain the qualification.

The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry stated, "Recently, BI (Business Intelligence) experts have been highly sought after in the job market," and added, "This newly established qualification exam is expected to be very popular among students preparing for employment and new employees taking their first steps in the workplace." BI is a program that collects tens of thousands to hundreds of millions of business big data from companies and displays them in real-time on a single screen using charts and graphs.

Major domestic companies such as Samsung, SK, Hyundai Motor, LG, Lotte, CJ, Hankook Tire, Market Kurly, as well as financial institutions like Shinhan and KB, prefer to hire individuals with BI skills. Recently, public institutions such as the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service, the Korea Educational Development Institute, and the Korea Tourism Organization have been providing BI-based administrative services and strengthening competency training.

In the past, dozens of employees were mobilized to summarize business information into about 100 pages of annual reports. However, now BI is used to convert big data into real-time charts and graphs on a single screen and predict future trends.

In fact, Kookmin Bank reduced 10,000 hours annually spent on report writing by using BI, and Samsung Electronics' Global Customer Service Department developed a dashboard that allows checking global data with BI, enabling customer service issues to be resolved within minutes, according to the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor established the Business Information Visualization Ability as a national technical qualification in the office field last November. This is the first new national technical qualification in the office field in 25 years since Computer Utilization Ability in 1998.

According to market research firm 'Presidense Research,' the global BI market is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 7.3% until 2032, reaching a scale of 70 trillion won.

Park Jae-geun, head of the Qualification Evaluation Project Group at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, "As digital transformation accelerates, data visualization is becoming an essential skill required in companies regardless of job roles," adding, "With the introduction of this national technical qualification, we will nurture verified digital talents to meet the workforce demand in the industrial field and improve corporate work efficiency."
