Dobong-gu Conducts Regular Inspections for Illegal Hidden Cameras in Public Restrooms

With social anxiety increasing due to nearly 6,000 cases of illegal filming crimes each year, Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) has established a 'Comprehensive Plan for Preventing Illegal Filming' and launched efforts to eradicate illegal filming crimes in public restrooms.

This year, the district will establish a system for continuous inspection of a total of 101 public restrooms in the area and begin large-scale inspections and measures.

First, self-inspections will be conducted on 24 facilities managed by the district, such as community service centers, and those managed by the Dobong-gu Facilities Management Corporation, including the residents' hall. The district will designate restroom management personnel for each management department or facility, who will conduct daily visual inspections and equipment-based inspections at least once a month.

For 77 multi-use facilities, including 22 privately opened restrooms, regular inspections will be carried out using separate inspection personnel such as the Dobong Illegal Filming Inspection Team.

Inspection results from self and regular checks will be recorded with dates and outcomes on inspection sheets inside the restrooms, and the district will review the inspection results quarterly. If illegal filming devices are found during inspections, they will be immediately reported to the police for action.

To enable private buildings to prevent illegal filming on their own, a 'Illegal Filming Inspection Equipment Rental Service' will be operated.

This service is available to owners or managers of private buildings as well as any residents who need inspections. Applications can be made by phone to the Dobong-gu Family Policy Division, followed by a visit. The rental equipment includes lens detectors and electromagnetic wave detectors, with a rental period of three days. The service is free of charge.

Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “Through the implementation of this comprehensive plan, we will proactively block sex crimes caused by illegal filming in the region,” and added, “We will continue to devote more effort to building a social safety net for the safe daily lives of residents.”
