Geumcheon-gu to Operate 'Emotional Communication Day' with District Mayor from March
Emotional Leadership Enhancement Program for Executives Level Director and Above Starting in March
Strengthening Communication with MZ Generation Employees through Movie Viewing and Beer Day Events
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) is taking on the challenge of achieving both ‘integrity’ and ‘organizational culture’ by strengthening emotional communication between the district mayor, executives, and employees this year.
This aims to form a consensus among employees and improve organizational culture by introducing various emotional communication methods suitable for the rapidly changing social and cultural environment.
The district will hold the ‘Emotional Communication Day’ event, in which the district mayor directly participates, from this month until December, starting with cultural and artistic viewings to cultivate emotional leadership among executives at the director level and above. The ‘Emotional Communication Day’ event is characterized by targeting all employees, from MZ generation staff to the district mayor.
In March and April this year, cultural and artistic viewings and athletic competitions for harmony and organizational culture improvement will be held for executives at the director level and above. In May, a communication workshop and mountain climbing competition involving both executives and general employees will be held to facilitate communication among various employees.
In July and August, a generational harmony event will be organized where MZ generation employees and executives watch movies together, enjoy refreshing beer, and share opinions.
Additionally, monthly communication events that break down barriers among employees, such as benchmarking sister cities and special lectures by notable figures, will be held.
In particular, Mayor Yu Seong-hoon frequently holds the ‘Mayor’s Donkey Ears, Emotional Communication Day’ event. He plans to actively lead improvements in organizational culture by directly meeting with employees in busy and field departments to encourage them and listen to their difficulties and suggestions.
The large-scale communication events among employees promoted this year reflect Mayor Yu Seong-hoon’s strong will. Earlier this year, based on employee opinions collected through the anonymous communication channel ‘Innovation Sharing Room,’ he abolished the lunch rotation system between executives and general employees. The lunch meetings, which had been held to facilitate communication between district executives and general employees, could be perceived as ‘serving the executives’ as times changed.
Furthermore, since 2021, the district has abolished the ‘Sibotteok Dolligi’ (passing around rice cakes for probationary employees), a practice ingrained in the civil servant organization, and instead provides flower baskets, potted plants, tumblers, and other gifts to employees who complete their probation as a congratulatory gesture.
Mayor Yu Seong-hoon stated, “Communication cannot be completed if it flows only one way. It just flows. It must flow both up and down and meet in the middle.” He added, “We will actively listen to and reflect employees’ opinions in accordance with the changing times to build a healthy organizational culture and strive to improve integrity.”
