Starting this month, a pilot project for the Clean Hydrogen Certification System will commence, and the Clean Hydrogen Power Generation Bidding Market (CHPS) will be established within the first half of the year, marking the world's first implementation of key systems for transitioning to a clean hydrogen ecosystem.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that Lee Ho-hyun, Director General of the Energy Policy Office, held a meeting on the 14th at Lotte Hotel in Sogong-dong, Seoul, with representatives of major domestic hydrogen companies to discuss policy directions and public-private cooperation plans for transitioning to a clean hydrogen ecosystem.
At this meeting, five leading companies in hydrogen production, distribution, and utilization attended, including Chu Hyung-wook, CEO of SK E&S; Lee Doo-soon, CEO of Doosan Fuel Cell; Lee Byung-soo, Vice President of Samsung C&T Corporation (Construction Division); Shin Seung-kyu, Executive Director of Hyundai Motor Company; and Kim Yong-hak, Head of Lotte Chemical.

During the meeting, the industry shared plans for the release of next-generation hydrogen vehicles, the status of major domestic and international clean hydrogen production and import projects in preparation for clean hydrogen power generation bidding, and trends in the establishment of domestic green hydrogen demonstration complexes. The industry requested flexible systems to expand the range of participants in the early stages of clean hydrogen power generation bidding and called for government-level interest and support to ensure smooth progress in overseas clean hydrogen development.
Lee Ho-hyun, Director General of the Energy Policy Office, stated, "We will focus our policy capabilities to make 2024 the inaugural year of clean hydrogen," adding, "We will faithfully implement key systems such as the Clean Hydrogen Certification System and CHPS, and strive to establish international cooperation in clean hydrogen supply chains and global-level hydrogen safety regulations."
He also said, "Before implementing major systems like CHPS, we will thoroughly listen to industry opinions, and especially closely identify the difficulties faced by our companies in overseas clean hydrogen development to make policy efforts for smooth project advancement."
