On the 13th, Atom announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Twinny, a company specializing in autonomous mobile robots, to collaborate in various business areas centered on a high-speed charging system for robots.


Through this MOU, the two companies agreed to cooperate in discovering clients and creating markets, aiming to generate profits. Twinny develops and supplies autonomous mobile robot solutions for factory automation and logistics center order picking. The company has more than 30 KAIST master's and doctoral researchers. Their developed robots feature 3D LiDAR sensor-based self-localization technology, enabling them to smoothly find destinations independently without additional infrastructure, even in wide and complex environments.


Atom and Twinny also plan to collaborate on developing a high-speed charging system that can increase the operating time of autonomous mobile robots used in logistics centers and on utilizing this system. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for contactless and online services has surged, significantly increasing the volume handled at logistics centers. In this context, forklifts are frequently deployed to move large-scale, heavy goods.


According to the global research firm TechNavio, the global market for robots used in logistics centers is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 31%, from 4.84 trillion KRW in 2021 to 18.88 trillion KRW in 2026. Domestic large corporations' logistics centers are also showing interest in utilizing autonomous mobile robots.


Atom expects that its fast charger, developed using proprietary transformer technology, will shorten charging times and thereby extend robot utilization time.


Han Taeksu, CEO of Atom, stated, "The longer the continuous operating time of robots, the greater the effect of introducing robots in logistics centers, which will in turn increase demand. We expect that collaboration with Twinny will serve as an opportunity to expand the applications of our fast charger products and will have a positive impact on the supply of transformer modules and chargers for electric vehicles."
