A drawing contest to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the April 16 Sewol Ferry Disaster will be held.
The 4·16 Democratic Citizenship Education Center announced on the 13th that it will hold the "2024 Memory and Hope Drawing Contest" from the 18th to the 29th of this month for kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as out-of-school youth of the same age group.
The contest is hosted and organized by the Education Center, with support from the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, the Gyeonggi Branch of the Korea Academy Federation, and the Suwon City Academy Federation. It was planned to remember and empathize with social disasters and to spread a character-centered life safety education culture.
The themes of the drawing contest are ▲ spreading consensus on memory culture ▲ respecting life and realizing a safe society ▲ civic awareness fulfilling autonomy and responsibility. Participants must express their work using crayons, colored pencils, pastels, etc., in styles such as Western painting, Eastern painting, or watercolor.
The 4·16 Democratic Citizenship Education Center will hold the '2024 Memory Hope Drawing Contest' from the 18th to the 29th of this month for kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as out-of-school youth of the same age group.
A total of 100 works will be awarded across five categories: kindergarten, lower elementary, upper elementary, middle school, and high school. The awards ceremony will be held on May 11 at the Education Center’s Minju Hall. Additionally, the winning works will be exhibited at the Education Center’s Future Hope Hall from April 30 to May 31.
Jeon Myeong-seon, director of the 4·16 Democratic Citizenship Education Center, said, "We aim to spread a culture of remembrance for the April 16 disaster on its 10th anniversary this year," adding, "Selected works will be used as educational materials and content to disseminate social lessons."
