"Bringing a Different Genre Pleasure and Distinctiveness from Before"
The drama "Yukwihan Wangtta," starring Sung Yoo-bin and Won Ji-an, will advance to the Cannes International Series Festival next month. Production companies Lotte Cultureworks and Climax Studio announced on the 13th that, with the support of the Ministry of Science and ICT, it will be featured in the Rendezvous section.
The Cannes International Series Festival is an awards ceremony established in 2018 by the Cannes Film Festival in France, selecting outstanding dramas that combine commercial success and artistic quality.
"Yukwihan Wangtta" is a disaster thriller school drama that deals with the dark nature of students isolated in a school that has collapsed for unknown reasons. It is based on the first part of the webtoon of the same name by writer Kim Soong-nyung. Lotte Cultureworks described it as "another episode derived from the world of the film 'Concrete Utopia.'"
The director is Min Yong-geun, who directed films such as "Hyehwa, Dong" and "Soulmate." The screenplay was co-written with writer Kim Bo-tong, known for "D.P" and "Hwangya."
Choi Byung-hwan, CEO of Lotte Cultureworks, said, "Various conflicts that evoke the anxious emotions and tension of children placed in extreme situations unfold episode by episode," adding, "It will captivate global audiences with its irresistible appeal."
Byun Seung-min, CEO of Climax Studio, whose works "Goei (2022)" and "Momgap (2023)" also advanced to the Cannes International Series Festival, said, "This work brings a different genre thrill and distinctiveness compared to previous ones," and added, "We will contribute to strengthening the reputation of Korean content in the global market."
