Shinsegae Department Store announced on the 13th that it will hold the 'Unpretty Fresh' event at 10 stores, including the main branch and Gangnam branch, until the 21st. At this event, Shinsegae offers 11 types of fruits and vegetables that may look unattractive but are not inferior in taste and nutrition compared to A-grade products, at discounts of up to 58%. Representative products include Seolhyang strawberries (500g), Daejeo tomatoes (500g), Cheonhyehyang (1kg), and paprika (2 pieces). Additionally, Shinsegae plans to provide customized recipes such as potato cake and paprika pesto through the department store's mobile app to help customers enjoy the Unpretty Fresh products deliciously.

Since launching the Unpretty Fresh event for the first time in the department store industry in 2022, Shinsegae has expanded the scale of the event every year. Starting with 5 types including peaches, apples, and Shine Muscat in the first year, it increased to 8 types last year, and this year expanded to 11 types by adding paprika and Daejima potatoes. Shinsegae stated, "This is to reduce the burden on shopping baskets during the high inflation period and to lead good consumption practices that save the environment and farming communities together."

Shinsegae plans to develop Unpretty Fresh into a company-representative farming and price stabilization project. The event, which was previously held once a year, will be held twice a year from this year, in the first and second halves. They also plan to increase familiarity by releasing products such as strawberries and cucumbers as character goods.

A Shinsegae Department Store official said, "As customers' interest in value consumption that practices eco-friendliness and coexistence increases, we are introducing a good consumption event that narrows the gap between farmers and customers," adding, "We will take the lead in presenting sustainable content that considers coexistence with farmers and eco-friendliness."
