Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Uncover Cruel Dog Slaughter Site

Gyeonggi Province has uncovered a site where dogs were brutally slaughtered and has launched an investigation.


The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police announced on the 12th that they uncovered a site in Uijeongbu City where dogs were brutally slaughtered using electric metal skewers and have begun an investigation.


The Special Judicial Police collected related information through a complaint reporting the brutal slaughter of dogs and conducted a stakeout investigation, ultimately raiding the slaughter site at dawn on the same day.


It was revealed that they illegally slaughtered six live dogs by applying electric current for 10 to 20 seconds using electric metal skewers without bleeding them afterward.

According to the current Animal Protection Act, acts that cause animals to die in a cruel manner are punishable by imprisonment for up to three years or a fine of up to 30 million won.


Hong Eun-gi, head of the Special Judicial Police, stated, "We will continue investigations in 2024 to eradicate illegal acts related to animals," and urged, "Since reports play a decisive role in animal-related investigations, please actively provide reports with photos or videos."


Meanwhile, from January to December 2023, the Special Judicial Police inspected and investigated 581 dog breeding facilities and pet-related businesses in the province, uncovering 18 cases at 11 locations.
