Government-Type 75% · Incheon-Type 85% Income Threshold for Crisis Households Relief
Up to 1 Million KRW Covered for Medical Bills, Utilities, and Rent
Yeonsu-gu, Incheon is implementing the 'Yeonsu-type Emergency Support Project,' which relaxes the support criteria to below 100% of the median income for residents who do not qualify for public emergency support systems despite being in crisis situations.
This project aims to identify low-income residents facing sudden crises such as unemployment, business closure, illness, or injury early on and help them maintain a stable life through livelihood, medical, and housing support provided by the district.
It complements the existing social welfare system that focuses on those below 50% of the median income and provides customized welfare services for households in crisis excluded from government-type or Incheon-type emergency welfare support. Currently, for households in crisis, the 'Government-type Emergency Welfare Support Project' supports residents with income below 75% of the median income, and the 'Incheon-type SOS Emergency Welfare Project' supports those below 85% of the median income.
Since last month, Yeonsu-gu has been conducting the 'Yeonsu-type SOS Package Support' and 'Yeonsu-type Emergency Welfare Support' projects targeting households with income below 100% of the median income who are facing sudden crises.
The Yeonsu-type SOS Package Support provides food packages worth 100,000 KRW to households at risk of food insecurity due to crisis situations and continuously stocks food packages at Food Market branches 1 and 2.
The Emergency Welfare Support includes livelihood support covering overdue utility bills such as electricity and water disconnections up to 1 million KRW, medical expense support for crisis households hospitalized due to illness or injury, and housing support providing monthly rent assistance to households at risk of eviction due to overdue rent.
This project is principally supported once per household per year, but if the crisis continues after support, an additional one-time support may be granted exceptionally after review by the Yeonsu-gu Community Security Council. Households registered and actually residing in Yeonsu-gu can quickly apply at the local administrative welfare center to receive the Yeonsu SOS package and emergency welfare support.
Lee Jae-ho, Mayor of Yeonsu-gu, stated, "We will support households in welfare blind spots who do not receive assistance from existing public systems to overcome their crises," and added, "We will continue to build a more robust welfare safety net to create a happy and empathetic welfare city for all."
