Early dementia screening not only diagnoses dementia but also allows for annual monitoring of memory decline. Especially for those aged 75 and above, who are classified as a high-risk group for dementia, intensive examination and management such as early screening and counseling are necessary to prevent progression to dementia. Therefore, it is recommended to undergo regular cognitive screening tests once a year.

The early dementia screening process proceeds in the order of dementia screening test, diagnostic test, and differential diagnosis, with the screening test taking about 15 minutes. Based on the screening test results, diagnostic tests such as neuropsychological evaluation and physician interviews are conducted to assess the presence of dementia.

If dementia is suspected in the diagnostic test, a referral for differential diagnosis is made to a cooperating hospital to identify the cause of dementia and make a final diagnosis. Afterwards, the individual is registered at the Dementia Safety Center to receive dementia support services and management.

An official from the Health Promotion Division of the Public Health Center stated, “If dementia is detected early and treated appropriately, it is possible to suppress progression to a severe state or improve symptoms,” and added, “We hope that through this screening, people will participate in cognitive screening tests to prevent dementia.”
