Minister Oh Young-joo Visits Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center
Attends 2024 One-Stop Business Support Expo Opening Ceremony
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced that Minister Oh Young-joo visited Daegu Metropolitan City on the 12th to hold a meeting with local startup representatives and also attended the opening ceremony of the '2024 One-Stop Enterprise Support Expo.'
Minister Oh's visit to Daegu was arranged to listen to the voices from the field in the region's key industrial sectors and to collaborate with local governments and regional innovation institutions to resolve issues.
To this end, Minister Oh held a meeting with six startups specializing in robot and bio super-gap technologies, which are the main industries of Daegu and Gyeongbuk. The participants mentioned the need for focused support for innovative technology development by early-stage AI robot companies, the necessity of multi-year support rather than single-year support in super-gap technology development areas, and the difficulty of securing excellent talent in local regions.
In response, Minister Oh stated plans to select super-gap startups possessing core technologies and provide linked support for technology commercialization, scale-up, research and development (R&D), policy funds, guarantees, and exports. She also mentioned preparing to expand the support period and funding scale for technology development and pledged efforts to attract excellent talent to local startups through the 17 Enterprise Workforce Difficulty Centers nationwide.
In particular, Minister Oh addressed the startups' difficulties regarding the high costs and time required for overseas medical device approvals and clinical trials by establishing a dedicated response team for overseas standard certifications to provide consultation and support related to certification.
On the same day, Minister Oh also attended the opening ceremony of the 'One-Stop Enterprise Support Expo.' This expo will feature participation from a total of 287 public institutions, large and medium-sized enterprises, overseas buyers, venture capitalists (VCs), and about 400 small and medium enterprises, conducting purchase and export consultations, investment briefings, and recruitment briefings.
Minister Oh said, “In this era of regional development, we will continue to cooperate with local governments so that regional small and medium enterprises can leap forward as the main players of our country's economy.”
