According to Article 24 of the Physical Fitness Facilities Act, private and public swimming pools will be inspected periodically until the end of the year; correction orders will be issued if violations are found

Yongsan-gu, Swimming Pool Safety and Hygiene Standards Inspection

Yongsan-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Hee-young) is conducting safety and hygiene inspections on 16 swimming pool facilities in the area.

This is in accordance with Article 24 (Safety and Hygiene Standards, etc.) of the “Act on Installation and Use of Sports Facilities.”

The inspection period is eight months, from March to December.

The inspection items include ▲whether pool water passes through a filter at least three times a day ▲deployment of lifeguards ▲compliance with pool water quality standards ▲posting of user compliance guidelines ▲slip resistance of floors around the pool and passageways ▲availability of first aid supplies, etc.

The inspection targets include four public facilities (▲Yongsan-gu Culture and Sports Center ▲Hyochang Social Welfare Center ▲Galwol Social Welfare Center ▲Youth Training Center) and 12 private facilities (▲Hyatt Hotel 2 ▲Seoul Dragon City 2 ▲Cheombeong Children’s Swimming Pool ▲Blue Lagoon ▲Hamilton Swimming Pool ▲Welfareion Fitness 2 ▲Mondrian Seoul Itaewon 2 ▲Rocaus Hotel), with responsible officials and commissioned companies conducting the inspections together.

A district official stated, “According to the law, sports facility operators must comply with relevant standards to ensure users can safely and comfortably use the facilities,” adding, “Minor issues found during inspections will be addressed on-site, while serious matters will be subject to administrative actions such as correction orders.”

In particular, the district is making thorough efforts in swimming pool water quality testing. Inspections are conducted at least once every six months (twice a month during the summer) by visiting the pools, and comprehensive water quality and heavy metal tests are also requested from the district health center and the Seoul Institute of Health and Environment Research.

If residual chlorine, combined residual chlorine, pH, mercury, aluminum, and other substances exceed the standard levels, the facility may be ordered to make corrections or suspend operations.

Last year, the district conducted a total of 10 swimming pool inspections and requested corrections (such as water quality improvements) for five swimming pool facilities.

Additionally, since the end of last month, the district has been conducting inspections on 24-hour unmanned sports facilities (gyms) in the area, checking for sports facility registration and the deployment of sports instructors, and plans to continue surprise inspections in the future.

Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “Residents’ demand for recreational sports is growing day by day,” and added, “Through inspections of various private and public sports facilities including swimming pools, we will ensure that residents can use the facilities with peace of mind.”
