Former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum declared on the 11th that he would join the election campaign committee of the Democratic Party of Korea. The reason Kim, who had announced his retirement from politics, accepted the request to join the campaign committee was because "we must send a clear warning to the Yoon Seok-yeol government, which is a 3-no regime of incompetence, irresponsibility, and lack of vision, and we must protect the legislature as the last stronghold," he said.

At a press conference at the National Assembly on the same day, Kim revealed his feelings about reversing his retirement from politics and entering the election battle.

He said, "The meaning of this general election is clear," adding, "We must judge the incompetence and reckless actions of the Yoon Seok-yeol government."

Kim stated, "For the future of the Republic of Korea, we need the power to check autocracy, unilateral actions, and regression," and argued, "The Democratic Party must check and guide the incompetent government through parliamentary power, take care of the lives of those in difficulty, and create a foundation to prepare for the future."

He also revealed that he had hesitated to join the campaign committee due to the nomination turmoil. He said, "The reason I repeatedly hesitated until the last moment about joining the campaign committee was because of the harsh evaluation of our Democratic Party by the public," adding, "Many people do not sympathize with whether the nomination principles of transparency, fairness, and meeting the public’s expectations were well observed. Regardless of the process, it was also regrettable that there was a lack of convincing explanations and warm messages of unity for the candidates who were not nominated and their supporters."

Kim said, "The election is just ahead. We must shake off everything and move forward together," adding, "We must embrace past wounds and look only to the people with the spirit of unity and solidarity." He continued, "Let's discard words like pro-Myeong or pro-Moon ourselves now," emphasizing, "Our mission now as the Democratic Party is to stop the failures of the Yoon Seok-yeol government and protect the people. We must put aside small differences and only think about what the people want in this general election."

He stressed, "If I join the campaign committee, I will decisively prevent anything that harms party harmony and unity or goes against winning the general election."

Kim said, "Although the Democratic Party has many shortcomings, it is the only party that can stop the reckless actions of the Yoon Seok-yeol government," and added, "I will find a way for the Democratic Party to become a more competent opposition party."
