Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam is conducting safety inspections on vulnerable facilities until the 29th to prevent safety accidents that may occur during the thawing season.
On the 11th, Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, visited the steep slope area of Jeonghyeon District in Jinbuk-myeon and personally participated in the safety inspection, thoroughly checking the safety management of vulnerable facilities during the thawing season.
As the frozen ground surface during winter melts due to rising temperatures, the ground weakens, increasing the risk of safety accidents such as ground subsidence, falling rocks, and collapses.
The city has formed a joint inspection team with private experts to conduct safety inspections on facilities particularly vulnerable during the thawing season, such as steep slopes, construction sites, and aging retaining walls and stone walls, until the 29th.
The main inspection items include ▲ cracks or subsidence in steep slopes and retaining walls ▲ groundwater discharge ▲ the condition of the ground and temporary facilities around earth retaining structures at construction sites.
Minor issues will be corrected immediately on-site, and facilities with safety concerns will undergo emergency measures, repairs, and reinforcements to eliminate safety risks.
Mayor Hong said, “The awareness and interest in safety in our society have significantly increased compared to the past, and citizens' expectations for safety are also considerable. We will continue to devote attention and effort to creating a safer community and do our best in proactive safety management across various disaster and safety fields.”
Meanwhile, Mayor Hong plans to continue close administration related to citizens' lives by visiting the Yeojwacheon area in Jinhae-gu for a ‘Spring Cleaning’ in preparation for the Jinhae Gunhangje Festival on the 18th, conducting ‘On-site Inspections of Small Businesses’ for major accident prevention on the 19th, and inspecting damage recovery and recurrence prevention measures at Changwoncheon, Naeseo-eup forest roads, and Sapa District urban development sites damaged by Typhoon Khanun on the 26th.
