President Yoon Suk-yeol attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the 'Gangwon Seawater Energy Cluster' held at Bomnae Gymnasium in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, on the 11th, stating, "The Gangwon Seawater Energy Cluster will become the forward base of Gangwon Province's advanced industries."
In his commemorative speech, President Yoon said, "We have kept the promise to develop Chuncheon into the data industry capital by utilizing Gangwon's water."
President Yoon emphasized, "The seawater energy cluster breaking ground today will use the cold water from Soyanggang Dam as cooling water to drastically reduce the power consumption of data centers, thereby lowering operating costs and increasing competitiveness," adding, "Chuncheon, embraced by Soyanggang, will take a leap forward as a world-class data center."
He further highlighted the significance of the project, saying, "This project is a wonderful success model where eco-friendly zero-carbon energy technology and cutting-edge data technology create synergy," and expressed expectations that "it will create about 7,300 jobs and invigorate the economies of Chuncheon and Gangwon."
President Yoon promised, "We will spare no support to ensure Chuncheon not only becomes the data industry capital of the Republic of Korea but also transforms into a global hub for the data industry."
About 500 people, including businesspeople, university students, Chuncheon local residents, and construction officials, attended the groundbreaking ceremony that day.
