Positive Response to Returning to Farming and Rural Settlement Policy Introduction

Gu In-mo, the mayor of Geochang County in Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 11th that he gave a special lecture to about 60 students of the Smart Return-to-Farming and Return-to-Village Department at Gyeongnam Provincial Geochang College on the topic of "Geochang County's 2023 Administrative Achievements, 2024 Administrative Operation Directions, and Return-to-Farming and Return-to-Village Policy Directions and Major Initiatives."


In the special lecture, he first introduced last year's administrative achievements in various fields such as education, welfare, agriculture, economy, and cultural tourism, as well as the major administrative directions for 2024, including the "Creation of Geochang-type Medical Welfare Town" and the "Construction of Geochang Cremation Facility."

He then explained the policy directions for promoting return-to-farming and return-to-village in Geochang County, along with initiatives to alleviate the burdens of young returnees and support their stable settlement, such as the "Generous Youth Return-to-Farming Home Support Project," "Operation of Smart Rental Farms for Youth Management Practice," and "Expansion of Community-Based Experience Events."


Mayor Gu said, "In an era of regional extinction, revitalizing return-to-farming and return-to-village is expected to play an important role in increasing the local population," adding, "I hope that the students of the Smart Return-to-Farming and Return-to-Village Department at Geochang College will actively participate in the customized youth return-to-farming policies promoted by the county."


The students who attended the special lecture expressed their thoughts, saying, "Thanks to the mayor's special lecture, we were able to gain a broad understanding of Geochang County, and it seems to be a great help in preparing for return-to-farming and return-to-village in the future."


Meanwhile, the Smart Return-to-Farming and Return-to-Village Department at Geochang College conducts the country's only interdisciplinary major courses for nurturing smart farm and landscaping experts.


In particular, to accommodate busy office workers and adult learners from distant areas who wish to return to farming and villages, the department offers online and weekend classes to increase accessibility, receiving great responses from learners. Currently, there are a total of 66 students enrolled, with 38 in the first year and 28 in the second year.
