Show the History of Reclamation and the Desalination Process Too
'Jinbongsan Manghaesa Area in Gimje' will be designated as a nationally recognized heritage scenic site. The Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 11th that it will collect opinions from various sectors for a month and finalize the designation through a review by the Cultural Heritage Committee.
Manghaesa Temple, which holds a long history, along with the Mangyeong River and the West Sea, harmonize to boast a beautiful landscape. As the name Manghaesa (望海寺), meaning a temple overlooking the sea, suggests, it has long been famous as a scenic spot with beautiful views of the setting sun.
The estuary of the Mangyeong River, freshwatered due to the construction of the Saemangeum seawall, is a representative migratory bird habitat in Korea. It holds significant biological value as a habitat for diverse species. It is also highly regarded for its academic value as an important site that vividly shows the history of land reclamation and the process of freshwatering (the phenomenon where seawater salinity decreases and changes into almost freshwater).
