Yongsan-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Park Hee-young) will conduct proactive safety inspections on 69 road facilities in preparation for the spring thaw season.
This safety inspection focuses on road facilities that may become weakened as the frozen ground thaws during the thaw season, potentially causing accidents, to ensure residents can use them with peace of mind.
By April 26, the district will carry out safety inspections on a total of 69 road facilities selected to prepare for the thaw season and flood damage, including ▲4 general bridges ▲1 overpass ▲5 underpasses ▲4 underground walkways ▲13 pedestrian overpasses ▲41 retaining walls ▲1 covered structure.
Earlier, on the 26th of last month, an inspection team composed of road facility managers and external private experts completed a joint inspection of bridge facilities.
From the 7th to the 22nd of this month, a comprehensive safety inspection will be conducted on all 69 targeted road facilities, and from April 1 to 26, 41 road slopes will be intensively inspected to prevent flood damage before the rainy season.
Key inspection items include checking for ▲steel deformation ▲concrete cracks, damage, and peeling ▲exposed rebar on bridges and overpasses, and ▲corrosion, leakage, and paint condition on underground walkways and roads, to identify risk factors across all road facilities.
In particular, for pedestrian overpasses frequently used by residents, the inspection will focus on ▲weld cracks ▲member sagging or detachment ▲bolt loosening ▲road surface pavement condition ▲exposed or corroded rebar on piers.
According to the inspection results, the district plans to immediately correct issues that can be addressed on-site, take emergency safety measures if warning signs are found, and promptly follow up with detailed safety diagnoses, repairs, and reinforcements to create a safe environment.
On the 8th, Yongsan-gu Mayor Park Hee-young visited the northern pedestrian overpass of Banpo Bridge and personally conducted a safety inspection with external experts.
Using a high-altitude work vehicle, they conducted a close-up visual inspection and checked the safety of the facility’s substructure and interior. They also walked on the pedestrian overpass and examined gaps in some floor materials, carefully considering any inconveniences pedestrians might experience.
Mayor Park Hee-young of Yongsan-gu said, “The more frequently residents use a facility, the more important safety inspections become. We will meticulously manage and supervise to proactively respond through regular inspections.”
