'Air Conditioner Outdoor Unit Shade' Support Expanded to All Residents, Total of 2,000 Households Supported
Home Visits for Installation to Ease Self-Installation Inconvenience and Enhance Resident Convenience
Cooling Cost Reduction and Energy Efficiency Improvement... Realizing Universal Energy Welfare Without Discrimination
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will expand the ‘Air Conditioner Outdoor Unit Shade Installation Support,’ which saves electricity bills and improves energy efficiency, to general households.
The shade installed above the air conditioner outdoor unit blocks sunlight, enhancing cooling efficiency and helping reduce electricity costs. According to experimental results, installing the shade lowers the temperature by 6℃, resulting in approximately 9% electricity savings.
Last year, the district supported the installation of air conditioner outdoor unit shades for vulnerable groups in response to the electricity rate increase. As many households actually reduced their power consumption, the district has allocated a budget to expand support not only to vulnerable groups but also to general households.
With the peak summer season approaching, the district is committed to alleviating the cooling cost burden for residents and leading the realization of equitable energy welfare. Additionally, starting this year, to minimize inconvenience and improve convenience for residents who need to install the shades themselves, the district will visit households directly to carry out the installation.
The support targets a total of 2,000 households: 1,800 general households and 200 vulnerable households. Residents can apply from March 11 to 24 through the integrated reservation board on the district’s website. However, applicants must be members or new registrants of ‘Eco Mileage,’ a program that accumulates mileage based on energy-saving achievements such as electricity, water, city gas usage, and reduced private car mileage. If the number of applicants exceeds the quota, final supported households will be selected through a computerized lottery.
For vulnerable groups such as recipients of government assistance, persons with disabilities, and elderly living alone, 200 households will be supported on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications can be made from April 1 by visiting the nearest community service center or the district environmental department in person or by phone.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “We aim to implement universal energy welfare by expanding the ‘Shade Support Project,’ which received enthusiastic responses from residents last year, to general households. We will carefully ensure that all residents can have a healthy summer in preparation for the upcoming season.”
