Representative of the 'Pro-Myeong' faction, former Busan High Prosecutor General
The Democratic Party of Korea has confirmed Yang Bu-nam, co-chairman of the party's legal committee and a member of the 'Pro-Myeong faction' (Pro-Lee Jae-myung faction), as the candidate for the Gwangju Seo-gu Eul district in the general election.
On the 8th, the Democratic Party's Central Election Commission announced the results of the nomination primary at the party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul.
Chairman Yang defeated Representative Kim Kyung-man (proportional representation) and former Gwangju City Culture and Economy Deputy Mayor Kim Kwang-jin in the Gwangju Seo-gu Eul primary, which was designated as a strategic electoral district following Representative Yang Hyang-ja's departure from the party.
Yang, a former Busan High Prosecutors' Office chief prosecutor, is regarded as a leading figure of the Pro-Myeong faction, having been appointed as legal committee chairman under the Lee Jae-myung leadership.
Candidates for metropolitan and basic councilors in the by-elections held alongside the general election were also announced.
For metropolitan council elections, confirmed candidates include Kim Kyu-ho for Yanggu County in Gangwon, Lim Jong-myung for Namwon District 2 in Jeonbuk, Kim Jin-ok for Changwon City District 15 in Gyeongnam, and Jeong Jong-bok for Jeonju District 3.
In the basic council elections, Lee Jeong-hyun will run in Jecheon City Ma district in Chungbuk, and Noh Seung-ho will run in Buyeo County Ga district in Chungnam.
