The Jungnang Police Station in Seoul announced on the 8th that they arrested a man in his 40s, Mr. A, on charges of theft, violation of the Specialized Credit Finance Business Act, and fraud, and detained him the day before.

According to the police, Mr. A, who was recently released from prison, picked up a card at an unmanned store and used it to pay about 40,000 won. He then deceived a victim he met through a chat application by pretending to be a doctor and swindled about 8 million won in 36 installments.

Police investigation revealed that Mr. A sent the victim a photo of himself wearing a doctor's gown to deceive them, then demanded money by claiming that he was short of cash due to a recent doctors' strike.

The police arrested Mr. A while investigating a report of fraudulent card use, confirmed that he was the same suspect who was arrested in 2015 for impersonating a doctor, and verified through analysis of call records that he committed the same crime.
