Prosecution Indicts Kim Bong-hyun's Older Sister Without Detention for Assisting 'Lime Mastermind' in Escape and Jailbreak Plans

The older sister of former Star Mobility chairman Kim Bong-hyun, a key figure in the so-called 'Lime Scandal,' who helped him escape, has been brought to trial.

The Criminal Division 6 of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Jae-man) announced on the 8th that Kim's older sister, Ms. A, was indicted without detention on charges of attempted assistance to escape from custody and aiding and abetting a fugitive. Ms. A is accused of helping Kim, who cut off his electronic ankle bracelet and fled while out on bail in November 2022, and of participating in the execution of Kim's prison break plan while he was detained at the Seoul Southern Detention Center in June of last year.

According to the prosecution's investigation, Ms. A assisted in the escape by relaying investigation details she learned from an accomplice under investigation related to Kim's escape to Kim himself in November 2022. It was also confirmed that she delivered escape funds to a third party in accordance with Kim's prison break plan in June of last year.

Meanwhile, Kim was sentenced to 30 years in prison by the Supreme Court in December last year in connection with the Lime Scandal and is currently serving his sentence.
