Gyeonggi Province will invest 35.9 billion KRW this year to promote four major educational cooperation projects with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education.
On the 8th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will jointly carry out four projects with the Gyeonggi Office of Education this year targeting 1,259 elementary, middle, high schools, and special schools: integrated support for uniforms (daily wear, sportswear) for new middle and high school students, a regional education cooperation platform, creation of eco-friendly playgrounds, and traffic safety guidance on school routes.
The new student uniform support project is an educational cooperation project among the province, cities/counties, and the Office of Education. It provides 400,000 KRW per student to 1,259 schools and 268,306 new students entering middle and high schools, allowing schools to autonomously select items such as uniforms, daily wear, and sportswear for support.
Since starting support for new middle school students in 2019, Gyeonggi Province has continuously expanded the support targets to include new middle and high school students and support for purchasing daily wear for schools where uniforms are not worn.
The regional education cooperation platform support is a project operating the Gyeonggi Shared School, which provides students with diverse learning opportunities by utilizing human and material educational resources in the local community. It supports various programs totaling about 2,500, including holding regional education cooperation councils, establishing an online system for education support offices, integrating and linking out-of-school educational activities, strengthening and evaluating region-customized program support, and operating Gyeonggi Irum School and Gyeonggi Irum University.
The eco-friendly playground creation project supports the creation of eco-friendly playgrounds at elementary, middle, high schools, and special schools where harmful substances were detected in excess in toxicity tests, and the reconstruction of old artificial turf and elastic pavement playgrounds that have exceeded their durability period (8 years).
The traffic safety guidance on school routes is a project supporting traffic accident prevention activities around schools and parent volunteer traffic guidance activities. A demand survey is conducted targeting 850 elementary schools, and each school is supported with 1 million KRW for purchasing traffic guidance supplies such as uniforms, vests, raincoats, signal devices, and light batons, as well as operating expenses for traffic guidance councils.
Park Sang-eung, Director of Educational Cooperation at Gyeonggi Province, said, "We check the progress of the projects through the Education Support Working Council, and at the annual meetings, we evaluate the previous year's projects and establish implementation plans for the next year," adding, "We will actively cooperate with the Gyeonggi Office of Education to improve the educational environment in Gyeonggi Province."
Meanwhile, since 2003, Gyeonggi Province has been promoting more than 50 projects over 21 years after establishing educational support project plans with the Gyeonggi Office of Education.
