Kyungpook National University Professors' Association: "No Longer Trust Hong Won-hwa, Resign as President"... Withdrawal After Applying for People Power Party Proportional Representation

After news broke that Hong Won-hwa, president of Kyungpook National University, applied for and then withdrew his candidacy for the People Power Party's proportional representation nomination, the Kyungpook National University Faculty Council (Chairman Oh Jeong-il, Professor of Public Administration) demanded that President Hong resign from his position.

In a statement released on the 7th, the Kyungpook National University Faculty Council stated, "President Hong Won-hwa applied for the proportional representation candidate nomination and then canceled it. Withdrawing the application does not erase the fact that it was submitted. Furthermore, since the withdrawal occurred after the application was reported in the media, this cannot be seen as a simple mistake."

The statement continued, "On October 21, 2020, Professor Hong Won-hwa was inaugurated as the 19th president of Kyungpook National University, and the university community believed that President Hong would faithfully carry out his duties for four years. However, during his term, President Hong betrayed that trust by applying for the proportional representation candidate nomination."

The Kyungpook National University Faculty Council added, "As the 25th Faculty Council representing 1,238 professors of Kyungpook National University, we can no longer trust President Hong Won-hwa. A president who is not trusted cannot properly fulfill his duties," and urged, "We hope President Hong will step down from his position as soon as possible."
