Refusing Additional Surgery: "I Won't Go Under the Knife"
Already Suffering from Severe Anesthesia Side Effects
A 19-year-old Chinese woman who has undergone plastic surgery more than 100 times declared that she "will no longer undergo surgery." She is reportedly suffering from severe side effects due to frequent plastic surgeries and anesthesia administration.
On the 3rd (local time), Hong Kong media South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on Zhou Chuna, a woman from Zhejiang Province, China. Zhou Chuna has spent as much as 4 million yuan (about 740 million KRW) on over 100 plastic surgeries since she was 13 years old.
She has suffered from anxiety about her appearance and depression since childhood and underwent plastic surgery to overcome these negative emotions. In particular, constant comparisons of her appearance by friends and family further intensified her obsession.
Also, attending an international school in Shanghai deepened her inferiority complex about her looks, leading her to become more obsessed with plastic surgery. Zhou Chuna confessed, "I even gave up school to get surgeries," adding, "I have had almost every possible plastic surgery, including rhinoplasty and bone shaving."
Zhou Chuna underwent eye-related plastic surgery 10 times. Although the surgeon performing the operations warned her that "there is no more area left to operate on," she did not heed the advice. She also had bone shaving surgeries so frequently that she had to lie in bed for 15 days receiving only IV fluids. Due to the drastic changes in her face from frequent surgeries, she reportedly had to replace her ID card four times a year.
Having undergone over 100 plastic surgeries, she is currently suffering from memory and vision decline, side effects caused by anesthesia. A plastic surgeon in Shanghai warned, "If Zhou Chuna continues to have plastic surgeries, she will suffer far worse side effects such as muscle spasms, facial nerve palsy, and brain damage caused by anesthesia abuse."
Ultimately, Zhou Chuna recently declared a "cessation of plastic surgery." She said, "My parents have completely stopped supporting me regarding plastic surgery. When people ask if I am their daughter, they don't even try to acknowledge it," adding, "I will no longer get on the operating table."
