Streaming of Korean Female Artists Increases More Than 6 Times in 5 Years
Last year, the Korean female artist with the most streams on the world's largest music platform, Spotify, was the group 'BLACKPINK'.

According to 'Key Streaming Data Related to Korean Female Artists' released by Spotify on March 7 to commemorate 'International Women's Day' (March 8), the 'Most Streamed Korean Female Artist Globally in 2023' was BLACKPINK, followed by NewJeans, TWICE, LE SSERAFIM, and FIFTY FIFTY in that order.
The most streamed song by a Korean female artist worldwide in the same year was FIFTY FIFTY's "Cupid - Twin Ver." Next, NewJeans' "OMG," "Ditto," and "Super Shy" swept the 2nd to 4th places. BLACKPINK's Jisoo's "FLOWER" ranked 5th.
Last year alone, Korean female artists were streamed over 24 billion times worldwide. Spotify explained that this figure represents a staggering 602% increase since 2018, five years ago.
In 2021, to celebrate International Women's Day, Spotify launched the 'EQUAL Hub' to more widely promote female artists and creators who have led various fields and genres worldwide.
The 'EQUAL Korea' playlist, which introduces diverse Korean female artists, can also be found on the 'EQUAL Hub.' Over the past three years, about 1,400 songs by Korean female artists have been featured through the 'EQUAL Korea' playlist. The most streamed song on this playlist is Jisoo's "FLOWER."
As part of the 2022 EQUAL campaign, Spotify announced a singles project with SUNMI. In January last year, NewJeans was selected as an 'EQUAL Campaign Ambassador' and was prominently featured on the 'EQUAL Global' playlist.
Park Jung-joo, head of Spotify Korea's Music Team, said, "On the occasion of International Women's Day, we were able to look back on the major achievements of Korean female artists and once again confirm their global influence and growth." He emphasized, "Spotify will continue to strive to connect Korean female artists from various genres with more listeners worldwide."
