Uiryeong-gun Newsletter Reissued After 10 Years … County Governor Oh Tae-wan Says "We Must Share Good Policies"

High Elderly Population... Promotion of Appropriate Policies

O Tae-wan, the governor of Uiryeong County, Gyeongnam, presided over an expanded executive meeting on the 6th at the 4th-floor conference room of the Uiryeong County Office, emphasizing the importance of policy promotion.

Governor Oh introduced Uiryeong-specific policy issues for this year, such as the ‘Strong Allowance for Multi-Child Families,’ ‘95-Year-Old Longevity Celebration Fund,’ and ‘Youth Package Project,’ then stated, “In accurately and effectively delivering policy promotion to the residents, we must consider policy promotion suitable for the characteristics of our county, which has a high elderly population.”

He cited the ‘County Administration Newsletter’ as an example. At the end of last year, Governor Oh instructed the production of the ‘County Administration Newsletter’ to enhance residents’ accessibility to policies, efficiently convey county administration messages, and provide useful lifestyle information.

The county had no booklet-type (paper) newsletter for over 10 years since the last issue of the ‘Uiryeong County Gazette’ was published in December 2014.

Governor Oh said, “Considering contact rate, recognition, and favorability, the most effective promotional medium for the local reality is the county administration newsletter,” and urged, “Along with policy promotion, please discover and spread good stories about our neighbors’ lives.”

The official title of Uiryeong County’s newsletter is ‘Buja 1beonji Uiryeong’ (Richest Address Uiryeong), scheduled for publication in mid-March.

‘Buja 1beonji Uiryeong’ is structured around three main themes: ‘Change 義 Uiryeong,’ ‘Wealth 多 Uiryeong,’ and ‘Happiness 愛 Uiryeong,’ featuring diverse content. It includes not only major priority projects promoted by the county but also village news, heartwarming stories, health information, webtoons, and reader participation sections.

In particular, ‘True Rich Stories,’ which seeks out the county’s rich-hearted and hopeful people, and ‘Buja Uiryeong HereUR,’ which explores tourist spots brimming with prosperous energy, welcome readers as special features befitting ‘Buja 1beonji Uiryeong.’

Notably, instead of outsourcing the entire newsletter production to an external company, key parts such as editorial meetings for gathering ideas, reporting, and article writing are handled by the county’s public relations team staff to provide in-depth articles and information reflecting Uiryeong’s unique characteristics.

Jeon Yoon-gap, the Planning and Budget Officer, said, “We are cautious about the newsletter becoming a one-sided county administration promotional tool. We are preparing it to be a tool for two-way communication with residents, allowing us to look into and communicate about the residents’ everyday lives.”

Jang Myung-wook, the public relations team officer in charge of newsletter planning, said, “Various studies on policy promotion conclude that newsletters are the second most effective promotional medium after banners. Especially in Uiryeong County, which has a large elderly population, the mobile newsletters provided so far had significantly low contact rates,” adding, “We aimed to include people, community, values, and communication in the county administration newsletter. Although there are some regrets, we are confident and hopeful.”

Meanwhile, Uiryeong County’s newsletter ‘Buja 1beonji’ will be published bimonthly starting with the inaugural issue on the 15th of this month and will be distributed free of charge.
