Jinju City Launches Full-Scale Exchange with Xi'an, the Largest City in Central and Western China

Mayor Jo Gyu-il Meets with Xi'an Broadcasting Station Director
Discusses Successful Resumption of 'Seokryukkot-ui Bom' Event

Jinju City in Gyeongnam Province dispatched a delegation led by Mayor Cho Gyu-il to its sister city, Xi'an in China, for a four-day schedule starting from the 5th to promote exchange cooperation, support the cultural exchange event "Spring of Pomegranate Flowers," and facilitate aerospace industry exchanges.

As the first agenda, the Jinju delegation visited Xi'an Broadcasting Station and met with Xi'an Broadcasting Station Director Xie Wei (解?). During the meeting, they discussed the successful resumption of the "Spring of Pomegranate Flowers" event co-hosted by Jinju Seogyeong Broadcasting Station and Xi'an Broadcasting Station, future development directions, and exchanged various opinions.

Mayor Cho said, "The 'Spring of Pomegranate Flowers' event commemorating the bond between the two cities was regrettably not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since it is a special event held through exchanges between broadcasting stations, we will actively support it so that the pomegranate flowers can bloom again starting this year," expressing his determination for a successful event.

Director Xie Wei of Xi'an Broadcasting Station welcomed the Jinju delegation's visit and said, "Starting with the resumption of the 'Spring of Pomegranate Flowers' event, we will strive to make exchanges between the two cities more active in many fields."

The "Spring of Pomegranate Flowers" event is a cultural event jointly held since 2007 based on a friendship exchange agreement between Jinju Seogyeong Broadcasting Station and Xi'an Broadcasting Station established in 2004, themed around the representative flowers of the two cities. Along with the Spring of Pomegranate Flowers, various cultural exchanges laid the foundation for Jinju City and Xi'an City to become sister cities in 2016.

In an interview with Xi'an Broadcasting Station on the day, Mayor Cho emphasized the long-standing friendship between Xi'an and Jinju, saying, "Since 1996, we have conducted mutual exchange exhibitions among members of the photographers' associations of Jinju and Xi'an, and have exchanged in various fields such as culture and economy. Based on this, both cities are growing as cultural and economic hubs."

He also stated, "Jinju, where the K-entrepreneurship of Korean global company founders shines, is advancing as an aerospace city, and through richer exchanges with Xi'an, also an aerospace city, we will grow together."

This interview was broadcast on Xi'an's evening news on the 5th, introducing the Jinju delegation and Jinju's development to the citizens of Xi'an.

Following this, the Jinju delegation is scheduled to engage in aerospace exchange cooperation with Xi'an, visit the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Xi'an, and visit the KOTRA Xi'an Trade Center. Through this delegation dispatch, Jinju City aims to enhance its brand value and strive to lower the barriers to growth in various fields such as culture and industry and entry into the global market.

Meanwhile, Xi'an is the capital of Shaanxi Province and the largest central city in central-western China with a population of 13 million. It is a thousand-year-old historic and cultural city that served as the capital for successive Chinese dynasties and currently serves as the political, economic, and diplomatic center of China, as well as a strategic base for the Chinese government's Belt and Road Initiative.
