Gyeonggi Province is recruiting cities and counties to participate in the ‘Pilot Project for Creating a Disposable-Free Gyeonggi Special Zone’ until the 18th of this month, as part of the ‘Comprehensive Measures to Reduce Disposable Products in Gyeonggi Province’ announced last January.
On the 7th, Gyeonggi Province announced that the pilot project will support reusable cups at multi-use facilities such as coffee shops, restaurants, funeral homes, movie theaters, and sports facilities located in the selected special zones, as well as festivals and events. The project will also support the establishment of reusable container rental and return facilities and the installation of washing machines.
From this year until 2026, Gyeonggi Province will select 2 to 3 cities or counties within the province and provide a total project budget of 3 billion KRW over three years.
Interested cities and counties should submit their application forms via electronic official documents by the 18th, and related documents can be submitted in person at the provincial office within the deadline. Additionally, consulting services will be provided when filling out the application forms.
Cha Seong-su, Director of the Climate, Environment, and Energy Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Reducing disposable products is a goal that cannot be achieved without the support of local governments that practically implement the policy. We expect active participation from cities and counties that wish to create a resource-circulating, carbon-neutral city."
