On the 6th, Lee Jang-woo, Mayor of Daejeon, announced the plan for the ‘Mega Chungcheong Square Development Project’ through a city administration briefing.

The project focuses on constructing twin towers with 7 underground floors and 49 above-ground floors on the site of the former railway supply warehouse at the East Plaza of Daejeon Station (total floor area of 229,500㎡).

The buildings will include convention facilities, hotels, transfer facilities, and office spaces.

Daejeon City plans to create an ICT-based ‘Smart MICE District’ in the station area and establish nearby hotels, aiming to make Daejeon a nationwide MICE industry hub centered around the Twin Tower.

Additionally, inspired by New York’s High Line, a three-dimensional pedestrian walkway will be installed to organically connect Daejeon Station, enhancing accessibility for users of the station, convention center, transfer, and office facilities, making the Twin Tower a master key for communication and exchange.

Above all, Daejeon City intends to add premium design elements to the Twin Tower to establish it as a representative architectural landmark of the region.

The project is estimated to require a total budget of 1.09 trillion KRW, with completion targeted for 2030.

The mayor said, “Daejeon Station is where the city’s origin began and has been the driving force behind today’s Daejeon. Through various development projects such as the construction of the city’s subway line 2 tram, a futuristic transfer center, and the Twin Tower, Daejeon City will lead the renaissance of the Daejeon station area.”
