Baek Byeong-su, Gyeongnam Province International Relations Ambassador, "Best Efforts to Expand Investment Attraction and International Exchange Cooperation"

Former Consul General of Japan in Sapporo, Bae Byung-soo, has been appointed as the new International Relations Ambassador of Gyeongnam Province.


According to Gyeongnam Province, the International Relations Ambassador is appointed by the governor upon recommendation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of foreign service officers who possess specialized knowledge and capabilities.


The newly appointed International Relations Ambassador Bae Byung-soo graduated from Korea University with a degree in Political Science and Diplomacy and passed the Foreign Service Examination in 1994, beginning his public service career as a foreign service officer.


He has since served as Consul General in Atlanta, USA; First Secretary at the Embassy in Germany; First Secretary at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations; Protocol Planning Officer; Director of Public Diplomacy; and Consul General in Sapporo.

In particular, during his tenure as Director of Public Diplomacy, he gained experience in discovering and promoting local government international exchange activities and public diplomacy collaborative projects, making him well-versed in local government exchange initiatives.


Gyeongnam Province expects that through Ambassador Bae’s appointment, communication channels with foreign countries will expand, boosting exchange projects in areas such as economy, trade, culture, and sports, as well as activities to attract overseas investment, thereby elevating the province’s international capabilities and status to a higher level.


Ambassador Bae stated, “For a nation to develop, its local regions must be solid and strong,” and added, “I will do my best to enhance Gyeongnam Province’s competitiveness by expanding international exchange cooperation and promoting investment attraction initiatives currently underway by the province.”
